A checklist before a 1,000 km drive
Long drives rarely fail because of something dramatic. They fail because of a worn wiper, a flat spare or a missing document.
The car
- Engine oil and coolant at the correct level, checked cold.
- Washer fluid topped up, wipers that clear the glass without streaks.
- All lights working, including brake lights.
- Tyres at laden pressure, spare inflated, jack and wheel key present.
The trip
- Plan a stop every two hours, even if you do not feel tired.
- Download offline maps for areas with weak coverage.
- Keep registration, insurance and a printed copy of bookings in the glovebox.
